Two stories fifty years apart braid together: Rose, a Deaf girl in 1927, and Ben, a boy who loses his hearing in 1977, both running away to New York. Rose is played by Millicent Simmonds, a Deaf actress, and her half of the film unfolds as a near-silent homage to silent cinema, a form built for Deaf storytelling. Based on Brian Selznick's novel. Beautiful and underseen.
