Across its later seasons, the long-running AMC drama introduced Connie, a Deaf survivor played by Deaf actress Lauren Ridloff, and her sister Kelly, with ASL woven into the group's survival tactics so Deafness becomes a genuine asset rather than a vulnerability. Ridloff went on to play Marvel's first Deaf hero. A rare case of sustained Deaf presence and ASL inside a massive mainstream genre hit.
