The A Word(2016)

A BBC/Sky series (adapted from the Israeli series Yellow Peppers) following a family coming to understand that their young son is autistic. The British original, available in the US, is widely praised for its authentic portrayal of autistic experience and the complexity of family dynamics around late diagnosis. The child at the center (played by non-autistic child actor Max Vento) has generated debate, but the writing around what autism means and doesn't mean is unusually thoughtful for mainstream TV.
