The A Word(2016)

A BBC/Sky series (adapted from the Israeli series Yellow Peppers) following a family coming to understand that their young son is autistic. The British original — available in the US — is widely praised for its authentic portrayal of autistic experience and the complexity of family dynamics around late diagnosis. The child at the center (played by non-autistic child actor Max Vento) has generated debate, but the writing around what autism means and doesn't mean is unusually thoughtful for mainstream TV.
