In Ramy Youssef's acclaimed Hulu series, Steve Way plays a version of himself: Ramy's blunt, very funny best friend who has muscular dystrophy. Youssef cast his real friend specifically to keep the disability authentic, and Way's scenes refuse pity in favor of sharp comedy about sex, friendship, and being underestimated. A strong example of a disabled actor shaping a mainstream show from inside the writers' intent rather than as a guest token.
