Murderball(2005)

An Oscar-nominated documentary about quadriplegic wheelchair rugby (murderball). Remarkable for refusing every standard trope about disability: there is no inspirational arc, no cure narrative, no tragedy. The athletes are portrayed as fierce, competitive, funny, and sexual — fully human — without making disability the punchline or the hook. One of the clearest models for how documentary can engage with disability from outside the community without condescension.
