Joybubbles(2026)
A documentary portrait of Joe Engressia, born blind, who became one of the first phone phreaks — able to whistle precise tones that let him navigate the telephone network before the digital era. Made its world premiere at Sundance 2026, where it became the first film in Sundance history to be screened with open audio description — the AD track played aloud in the theater alongside open captions. Audio description written by Cheryl Green and narrated by Thomas Reid, with blind script editor Rick Hammond. A landmark in disability arts accessibility.
Currently in festival distribution following its Sundance 2026 premiere. Watch for streaming announcement — its accessibility milestone (first open AD at Sundance) means the accessibility community is tracking this closely.
