A darkly funny drama about identity and appearance in which Adam Pearson, who has neurofibromatosis, gives a much-praised performance many critics said steals the film, playing his character without prosthetics. The film is explicitly about disability and representation. Note that the lead, Sebastian Stan, is a nondisabled actor in prosthetics, a tension the film knowingly plays with.
